Telling Your Story Through Fine Art Portraiture

Shinu John is a fine-art portrait photographer based in Dublin, Ireland, creating bespoke portrait commissions for individuals, families, professionals and pets. Each commission is developed as a considered work of art, from the initial concept and creative direction through to the finished portrait and artwork.

From fine-art portraiture and boudoir to family portraits, pet portraits, executive headshots and personal branding, every commission is approached individually, with creative direction, lighting and styling shaped around the person and the story being photographed.

 

Portrait sessions are held primarily at my private photography studio in Rialto, Dublin 12, where I have complete control over lighting, styling and creative direction.

WHAT THE PROCESS IS LIKE

1. THE CONSULTATION

Your commission begins with a conversation. We discuss what you want to create, the story or idea behind it, your preferred aesthetic and how you would like the finished portrait to look. Where appropriate, we develop a mood board to establish the visual direction before your session.

2. THE PORTRAIT SESSION

Your portrait session is directed around you rather than a predetermined set of poses. Lighting, styling, composition and posing are carefully considered to create portraits that feel intentional, expressive and personal. Where required, professional hair and makeup can form part of the experience.

3. THE ARTWORK SELECTION

After your session, we review the photographs together and select the portraits that best represent the vision we created. This is also where we begin considering which images are best suited to finished prints, wall art or other artwork.

4. THE ARTWORK REVEAL

Once your portraits have been fully refined, we present the finished work through an artwork reveal. Together we can explore your chosen portraits and the options available for turning them into finished artwork for your home or collection.

5. THE FINISHED ARTWORK

Your finished portraits are delivered according to the collection and artwork you select. Digital photographs are provided through an online gallery, while finished prints, wall art and other physical artwork are prepared separately for collection or delivery.

The Studio

My private photography studio is located in Dublin where I create fine art portraits, beauty and boudoir portraits, professional headshots, personal branding imagery, family portraits and fine art pet photography. The studio provides a controlled environment for portrait photography, allowing me to carefully shape the lighting, styling and creative direction for every session.
